Cung Le was born in Saigon, South Vietnam. In 1975, three days before the Fall of Saigon, Le and his mother left Vietnam by helicopter under heavy gunfire. Le ended up in San Jose, California where early discrimination and bullying inspired him to learn martial arts. His mother enrolled him in Taekwondo classes at the age of 10. Le then found the Chinese martial art of Sanshou which he began to train extensively. Le has an undefeated record of 16-0 in Sanshou and 17-0 in Kickboxing along with multiple championships in both sports. Le made his Mixed Martial Arts debut in 2006 and amassed an undefeated record of 6-0 and defeating MMA legend Frank Shamrock before losing his first fight in 2009.
